Obama in Denver

DENVER – In seven months, the Democratic Party will crown its presidential nominee here at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, the gateway to the West – and, they hope, the White House.
So at a campaign stop here today, even as he courted voters for next week’s Colorado caucuses, Mr. Obama looked beyond this intense period of competition to the moment when the party gathers behind its nominee. He did, of course, offer no timetable for this to take place, particularly as the campaign evolves into a scrappy fight for delegates.
“We will come together after a long and hard fought primary campaign,” Mr. Obama said, “and that’s a good thing.”
As he spoke at the University of Denver, a crowd of nearly 10,000 people rose to their feet to offer a standing ovation for John Edwards . Mr. Obama has been speaking to Mr. Edwards by telephone with greater frequency in recent weeks, including once yesterday and again today. He vowed to pick up Mr. Edwards’ call to highlight poverty in America.
