First, a Few Words from the Pomerama
Some of the stories contained
here mention the breeding of pets, we here at the Pomerama feel very
strongly that pets should be spayed/neutered and not bred. With
a world full of dogs being produced through puppy mills and backyard breeders,
there are many Poms being euthanized, mainly due to overbreeding practices
and the fact that perspective owners are not properly evaluated to ensure
they are well-suited to owning a Pomeranian.
We try not to lecture,
but.....
Please leave breeding to
those reputable breeders who devote their lives to producing litters
through careful planning, caring for Poms to ensure they are in peak condition
(physically and mentally), and improving the Pomeranian through breeding
programs designed to eliminate hereditary problems, while striving to breed
closely to the American Pomeranian Standard (or other national standards
where appropriate). Standards are used to perpetuate what we all love about
a breed. Without it, there would be no Pomeranians, or any of the other
breeds that people fall in love with. Breeding dogs is a commitment that
takes a lot of time, patience, love, and finances. In other words, hug
your pets, love your pets, and PLEASE spay/neuter your pets.
Always seek out professional
health care and training for your Poms.
Great care should always
be taken when walking your dog. Poms should always be walked on leash
and should be protected from the advance of any dog larger than the Pom.
Poms are frequently attacked and killed by larger dogs. Remember that it
is too late to protect your beloved little companion after an attack has
happened. By then, it is usually too late.
