The problem seems to be that the background is white, but the fonts are using a default colour. Since I am using a black theme my default font colour is white, so I can't read most of the text without selecting it :( I am using Epiphany, and there is an option to override all of a site's colours, but then I wouldn't get to see the cool new design.
