" False prophets It seems like every-day we are being bombarded by more and more claims of people who are said to be prophets of God (the God of the Bible). How can we tell if these prophets are really from God? Are they just self proclaimed prophets? What are we to look for in determining if God is really speaking through one of his prophets? Once again we need to refer to Gods Holy Word which is the King James Version of the Bible. Here is a reference to what God has spoken on pertaining to false prophets: Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. We are admonished to be on guard at all times against false doctrines. We are told to prove all things. We should not receive any teaching of anything spoken by prophets, until we first prove them. How do we prove all things? Every true believing Christian is in agreement that our standard is the Word of God, the Bible. God left us this Book as a reference a standard, or gauge so we could know whether something is good or evil the truth or a lie, right or wrong. This is reveled to us in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 : All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ( 17 ) That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. As with anything else in the Christian walk of life, we need to be on guard against the wolf in sheep's clothing. If a prophet is really sent from God, that person will show forth the fruits of the Holy Spirit in their life.
