based on my personal experience as an English First (English Town) teacher
for 9 months in 2005-6 in Bali, Indonesia. I have created this web
page simply to warn students and other teachers. If you are an
English Student or potential English Student:
As an English
Student, or the parent of an English student, that is currently enrolled in
an English First school or English Town, the on-line version of English
First, you need to know the following:
The teachers are UNTRAINED to teach English to non-English speakers!
The teachers are NOT required to have any TESOL teaching certificates.
The teachers are NOT required to have a college or university degree .
The teacher training at English First consists of ONLY a familiarity
with the 'process' of teaching at English First. NO training on how
to correct mistakes; how to present information; or any other specialized
training an English teacher must have before teaching to non-English
learners.
English First uses non-native English speakers to grade students
compositions. Students are NOT told this.
English Town, the English First on-line company, has so many
technical problems that we teachers were unable to teach many of the
